Creating a Listing
Now that you're set up as a publisher, you can make listings to sell your products and assets.
First, you want to make your listing. Then, you’ll upload one or more assets to make a product. Once the assets are uploaded into the listing, you can build a media set for showcasing your product.
This media set includes a thumbnail image, as well as additional images and 3D previews which you can adjust with the 3D Editor. You must add a thumbnail and at least one image or 3D preview to your media gallery.
Lastly, you will submit your listing for review and approval before it can be published and become visible to buyers.
To learn more about creating a listing, see Publishing Assets for Sale. To migrate your listings from Unreal Engine Marketplace or Sketchfab, see Migrating Assets to Fab for the full workflow and information.
Licenses and Pricing
For information on licenses and pricing, see the Licenses and Pricing page.
Payout
When you sign up for Fab, you will be linked out to a third-party payment provider to set up your payout information. This is how you will get paid for revenue earned from selling content on Fab.
You will receive 88% of the revenue generated by your product sales. Any refunds that are issued will be deducted from your next payout (or multiple payouts if needed).
Payments
- Fab makes payments 30 days after the end of each month where revenue was earned, when the amount to be paid is $100 USD or more.
- If your revenue amount for a month is less than $100 USD, it rolls over to the next month. It continues to roll over until the $100 USD minimum is met, or until the end of the year.
- Fab pays out any unpaid revenue from the previous year on Jan 30, even if the amount is less than $100 USD.
Refunds
When a buyer wants to be refunded for a product that they bought from you, the following guidelines apply:
-
If the buyer never downloaded the product, they can request a refund. Epic will verify that the files have not been downloaded, and then refund the purchase.
-
The buyer can contact you and request a refund. You can approve a refund for any reason. If you approve the refund, you must notify Epic, and we will process it.
-
However, if you do not approve the refund, the buyer can then contact Fab Support to request a refund.

Marketing your Listings
Here are some tips, tricks, and best practices for marketing your listings and being a successful publisher.
Deciding What Content to Sell: Diversification, Demand, Contemporary Trends
One of the first steps to running a store is deciding what content to sell. There are many angles to tackle this topic. We’re providing a few potential directions you can take:
- Strengths: Think about what type of content you excel at creating and can deliver on demand. You want to focus on your strongest work in order to stand out.
- Content Focus: Do you see your store mostly selling a single type of product, such as 3D content? Or do you want to offer a wider variety of products?
- Topic and Theme: Within a single type of product, there can be a number of different creative and technical directions you can take. For example, for 3D content, you can choose certain art styles and themes, such as a stylized dungeon, a realistic factory warehouse, a sci-fi sports arena and so on. For inspiration, you can consider current or upcoming events, or pop culture trends.
- Brand: What kind of content do you want your buyers to discover when they go to your store? Do you already have a specialty? For example, if you specialize in low poly stylized 3D content, buyers will be likely to expect other similar content from you.
Free and For-Sale Content
On Fab, you have the ability to list products as free or for-sale. Having free content in your store can be a great way to allow your potential customers to test your products before they commit to buying other products from you. Releasing free content can also increase usage of your content, which in turn could boost buyer awareness of your store.
With Fab, you can adjust the pricing of your listings across licenses. Be careful about how frequently you adjust the prices, as constant fluctuation can lead to undesirable reactions from your customers.
Publication Frequency
Publishing assets consistently fosters anticipation in your customers, and they will look forward to upcoming content. A scheduled publishing cadence can benefit your marketing efforts, because it helps you plan and coordinate your social media posts more efficiently, and that builds anticipation prior to the release.
Environment Packs, Props Packs, and Standalone Assets
As a 3D content creator, you have different options for preparing your content for sale as environment packs, props packs, or standalone assets. Create a pack of your assets to best showcase your content, which can impact your sales positively.
- Environment packs typically include a set of terrain or prop assets and a demo map which is completely game-ready for customers. Some examples are a deserted tropical island pack or a realistic barnyard pack.
- Prop packs typically consist of a variety of assets that can be used to populate and fill out a scene. Some examples are a tropical tree pack or farm animal pack.
- Standalone assets are normally assets that are unique and sold individually. Some examples are a 3D model of a palm tree or a chicken.
Growing your Customer Base
Aside from quality content, impactful marketing is a common factor into becoming a successful marketplace contributor. There are a plethora of methods and factors that could lead to growth. How you go by this is ultimately yours but here are some suggestions that may assist you in growing your marketplace business:
- High quality, clear marketing content: Showcase your content in the best way possible. Optimize thumbnails and image galleries, which are often the first impressions that potential customers get of your products. Other media such as video content can also have an impact.
- Social media: Leverage your social media presence to spread the word about new releases and upcoming content. Product promotion can increase your content's visibility and drive sales.
- Complete your Fab publisher profile: This is where you can share information about your work and provide links out to your social media presence or website. A complete profile may strengthen customer confidence as they consider purchasing from you. Don't forget to update your profile from time to time to keep it current.
Managing Product Feedback and Customer Service
Good product ratings may boost your credibility as a creator and set you apart from your competition. Customers are likely to provide good ratings for quality products that meet their expectations, and for good customer service when they have questions or run into issues.
- Respond to buyer inquiries in a timely and thoughtful way.
- Use the Q&A section to answer user questions about your product. This can help customers better understand your product and resolve some uncertainty or confusion.
- Consider using social media, the Epic Developer Community, or other communication channels to provide updates and support to your customers.
- Provide post-sale support and highlight product updates.
- If you anticipate updating any of your products after their initial publication, consider how you will communicate this information to your customers so that they can monitor the right channels.
- If product files are password protected or there are prerequisites for accessing the purchased content, we strongly recommend providing this information on your products’ description pages.
