The Twinmotion templates and demo scenes, and most of the assets in the Twinmotion Library, are stored on a dedicated server in the cloud. The cloud content in the library includes Twinmotion native assets, and the Quixel Megascans and Sketchfab assets.
The image below highlights the categories of the Twinmotion native assets in the library.
The image below highlights the Quixel Megascans and Sketchfab categories in the library.
Using Cloud Content
You need to download the Twinmotion templates, demo scenes, and library assets stored in the cloud before you can use them.
A few Twinmotion assets are available locally with your Twinmotion installation and can be accessed instantly from the library, but the majority are stored in the cloud.
Templates and Demo Scenes
When you download a template or demo scene from the Home panel, certain assets in the template or demo scene are also automatically downloaded, but you will be prompted to download the rest of the assets that are stored in the cloud.
For more information on the templates, and for instructions on how to download them, see Templates in Twinmotion.
Library Assets
You can download the Twinmotion, Quixel Megascans, and Sketchfab assets from the library individually, or select multiple assets from the same category and download them all at once. Twinmotion assets can also be downloaded by category, and as library packs from the Library packs tab in the Home panel. For more information and download instructions for Twinmotion, Quixel Megascans, and Sketchfab assets, see the following pages:
For more information about the library packs, and instructions on how to download them, see The Home Panel.
Opening Scenes and Templates with Cloud Content
When you open a Twinmotion scene or template that contains content that is stored in the cloud and has not been downloaded on your computer, the following message appears and prompts you to download the content.
You only need to download the content once. When the content is downloaded on your computer, the message does not appear the next time you open the scene or template.
To start downloading the content, click OK.
To download the content at a later time, click Cancel.
You can download the content later by selecting Cloud content recovery in the Edit menu.
Each asset and material that is not downloaded is represented by a placeholder cloud image or blue material.
Persistent File Location
Starting with Twinmotion 2026.1, the cloud-based content you download, and the assets you copy to the User library, are stored in a persistent location on your computer. The cloud-based content includes the following:
The Twinmotion native assets in the library and in the Home panel Library packs.
The Quixel Megascans and Sketchfab assets in the library.
The visualization templates in the Home panel.
The cloud-based content you download, and the assets you copy to the User library, are instantly available in any future Twinmotion versions when you keep your cloud-based downloaded content and User library assets in a persistent location.
Default File Locations
The default locations are the following:

The Twinmotion Library Setup Window
As of 2026.1, the Twinmotion library setup window appears the first time you open Twinmotion.
In this window, you are prompted to accept the default persistent location where cloud-content is stored on your computer. We recommend using the suggested default location, but if you prefer, you can select another location by clicking Customize. Any new location you select is also regarded as a persistent location, and will be detected and used by Twinmotion in future versions that you install.
When you have chosen a location, click OK.
If you do not want to select a location now, click Cancel. You can open the Twinmotion library setup window and change the location at any time by selecting Library transfer in the Edit menu.
You can also change the location where cloud-content is stored by opening the Preferences panel (Ctrl + P) and changing the paths in the Custom paths section under the Settings tab. However, changing the location in the Preferences panel does not move any existing content you may have already downloaded. Use the Twinmotion library setup window to move any content you already downloaded.
If you have a previous version of Twinmotion installed on your computer, the first time you open Twinmotion 2026.1, the Twinmotion library setup window also prompts you to copy your content into the persistent file location structure.
For more information, see Persistent File Location in the Twinmotion 2026.1 Release Notes.
Library Path Commands
This section is intended for network administrators who manage Twinmotion workstations for an organization.
