In Twinmotion, you can create configurations and use them to make interactive presentations that showcase different variations of a project, such as multiple versions of an architectural scene or different versions of a product. Using configurations to create real-time 3D experiences is an effective way to present and compare project variations during design reviews with your peers, or when presenting projects to your clients and stakeholders. With a simple click on a trigger icon, you can instantly switch between the variations when using Twinmotion in Fullscreen mode (F12) or when viewing images, panoramas, videos, or sequences in Local and Cloud Presentations.
About Configurations
Configurations are a type of media that you create in the Media dock.
With configurations, you can set up multiple variations (known as states) of a scene or object based on one or more of the following categories, and easily switch between the states by clicking a trigger icon in the scene.
Properties: Modify the properties of the assets in a scene to show different versions or options of the same asset, such as switching the color of a light, changing the type of vegetation in a scene, or opening and closing a door.
Material switch: Try out different types of materials on objects and surfaces and compare the results.
Visibility: Control the visibility of objects in a scene, such as showing different wheel options for a vehicle, or showing and hiding parts of a 3D model.
Ambience: Show a scene or product under various ambience settings by using different environmental, camera, rendering mode, and special effects settings.
Transform: Transform the position, rotation, and scale of objects, for example to show an exploded view of an object part.
Camera position: Show a scene or object using multiple viewport camera positions.
You can create different configurations based on only one category—such as the Material switch category to show different materials on an object—but you can also combine them, for example to show different materials on an object as well as different ambiences.
States
In Twinmotion, the different variations inside a configuration are known as states. When you create a configuration, one state is automatically created inside the configuration. You add additional states for each variation of a scene or object you want to create.
You can switch between states by clicking their thumbnails in the Media dock, or by clicking the trigger icon that appears in the scene.
You can switch between states in Twinmotion while in Editor mode, in Fullscreen mode (F12), and in Local and Cloud Presentations if you apply states to the media inside the presentation. In presentations, configurations are applied on a per-media basis, so you can decide which media in a presentation can be viewed with interaction.
For information on how to apply states to media, see Applying Configuration States.
Triggers
Triggers in the scene are used to switch between the different states you create. When you first create a configuration, one trigger is automatically created. As you add states to your configuration, you switch between them by clicking the trigger in the scene.
Triggers can be created in the following formats:
2D trigger: An icon in the form of a 2D layer.
3D trigger: An icon in the form of a 3D object that appears as an element in the Scene graph. You can position 3D triggers on objects in the scene and use them to demonstrate movement, such as opening and closing a door.
3D object: A 3D object in the scene that you designate as a trigger. Clicking the object switches between the states.
For more information about the properties of triggers, see Triggers and Trigger Settings in the Creating a Configuration documentation.
