Twinmotion 2026.2 Preview is a new version. You can open projects created and saved in previous versions. However, projects created and saved in 2026.2 Preview will not open in previous versions.
Projects made with previous Twinmotion versions can occasionally load slower on 2026.2 Preview than on previous versions. We are working on improving performance for the next release.

What’s New in 2026.2 Preview
Night and Moon Improvements
We overhauled the night lighting system to deliver more realistic, physically grounded results. You can now use the Twinmotion Dynamic sky in Realistic mode. You can still use the legacy lighting system, but in Realistic mode you can create realistic nighttime scenes with the new Night sky settings that accurately display the true position of the moon and nighttime lighting.
In Realistic mode, the moonlight, skyglow, and atmospheric response now behave naturally, and exposure adapts better in low light. Transitions between day and night are smooth and consistent, so your time-lapse and lighting workflows just work.
Improvements
Exposure during the transition between day and night
Real position of the moon and stars
Moon phases
Milky way
Air traffic
For more information, see the Night sky section in the Ambience Settings documentation.
Aurora Borealis
Bring polar night scenes to life by enabling the new Aurora borealis night sky feature and shaping it to suit your vision. With intuitive settings for animation, intensity, and color, you can craft anything from soft, atmospheric glows to striking, cinematic skies.
The Aurora borealis setting is located in the Ambience panel in the Env tab, under Dynamic sky > Realistic > Night sky.
For more information, see the Night sky section in the Ambience Settings documentation.
MegaLights
MegaLights has been seamlessly integrated into Twinmotion as a new Shadows mode in the Render settings. MegaLights is a new way to handle shadows in the Standard and Lumen rendering modes, and gives you the freedom to use a high number of shadow-casting lights in your scenes without compromising performance.
The Path tracer rendering mode does not use MegaLights.
The MegaLights feature depends on hardware ray tracing, and is compatible with all NVIDIA RTX graphics cards, and Apple Silicon Mac M3 or higher.
For more information, see MegaLights.
Cryptomattes
Twinmotion now provides cryptomatte export in the EXR file format for users with complex scenes who need to isolate and retouch individual assets in post-production. You can base the cryptomatte files on the following:
Object ID
Material ID
Container ID
Mesh section ID
Render layer ID
Enabling the High precision option feathers and reduces any jagged edges on the objects in exported images and image sequences.
For more information, see Cryptomattes.
Interchange Import for the GLTF, GLB, and SKP File Formats
We are continuing the transition to the Interchange importing pipeline by expanding support to the GLB, GLTF, and SKP file formats, and fully retiring the legacy importer.
Interchange now supports the following file formats:
FBXOBJGLTF/GLBSKP
All supported file formats benefit from improved control over import fidelity and more reliable reimport behavior, especially for objects that have undergone scene overrides. The following Interchange features are now available across all supported formats:
Reset transform on selected
Reset material on selected
Reimport deleted objects
The legacy import pipeline has now been fully removed from Twinmotion:
The Use legacy importer option in the Preferences panel is no longer available.
All supported file imports now exclusively use the Interchange pipeline.
Important
Assets that were originally imported using the legacy importer cannot be reimported.
In the Import dock, the Refresh icon and the reimport commands are not available for assets that were imported with the legacy importer.
It is not possible to switch or upgrade a legacy-imported item to the Interchange pipeline.
To update assets that you originally imported with the legacy import pipeline, you must import them again using the current Interchange pipeline.
With the removal of the legacy import pipeline, the following file formats are no longer supported:
3DSC4DDAEDXFSTL
Scalers Animator Tool
We have added a new type of Animator tool, Scalers, to the Tools > Animators category in the Twinmotion Library.
Scalers use procedural scaling to add richer and more expressive motion to scenes, by growing, shrinking, or pulsing objects dynamically over time.
For more information, see Scaler Tool.
Enhanced Custom Paths
The Custom path tool has been redesigned to work more directly with the scene.
You can now do the following:
Assign scene objects directly to custom paths, without needing to convert them into library assets.
Animate multiple objects on the same custom path.
Use animated objects on custom paths, such as imported animated files, or Twinmotion animators.
Choose between different placement options to control how objects are distributed along the path.
For more information, see Custom Paths.
3DConnexion Mac Support
Twinmotion now supports the 3DConnexion SpaceMouse on macOS. This integration addresses the request from many Mac users for the same navigation experience currently available to users of Twinmotion on PC.
New Segmented Controls for Enhanced Clarity
We have introduced segmented controls in the Properties panel to bring more clarity to the hierarchy of the items in the panel. Top-level settings with two or more distinct modes or options are now presented as segmented controls. This ensures that you can see at a glance which primary choices are related to the nested settings below.
Segmented controls are a cleaner, faster way to manage complex scene configurations. The Properties panel dynamically adapts to the items you select in the scene, so that you only see the controls that are relevant to your current mode.
Support for Geodata Entries
In the search bar for the Location map in the Ambience panel (Env tab > Sun), you can now enter latitude and longitude geographical coordinates in the following three formats:
Decimal Degrees (DD)
Degrees and Decimal Minutes (DDM)
Degrees, Minutes, and Seconds (DMS)
