Twinmotion supports geometry file formats from most major design applications. This includes the .udatasmith file format created with the Datasmith Exporter plugins.
Geometry files typically contain meshes and textures. Some of them may contain metadata you can view in Twinmotion, and .udatasmith, .glB, and .glTF files can contain lights.
When you import geometry files into Twinmotion, you can choose import options to optimize how various properties are handled during the import process, such as how geometry is collapsed, and settings for lights, materials, and UV mapping. The import options can vary depending on the file format of the geometry. For information on the available import options, see Import Options.
In order to improve rendering and performance in Twinmotion, you can optimize geometry by enabling the Nanite system or using the automatic LOD generation feature. For more information, see Optimizing 3D Models for Real-Time Rendering.
For information on how to import geometry files, see Importing Geometry.
Supported Geometry File Formats
Twinmotion supports the following geometry file formats:
As of Twinmotion 2026.2 Preview, .3ds, .c4d, .dae, .dxf, and .stl files can no longer be imported directly into Twinmotion. To import these types of files into Twinmotion, you must first convert them to a file format supported by Twinmotion. You can also import .3ds files using the Datasmith Exporter plugin for 3ds Max.
| File Format | Description |
|---|---|
| In design applications that support the Datasmith workflow, you can convert the projects you create into Certain design applications have this functionality built-in, while for others, you need to download and install the Datasmith Exporter plugins. For information on design applications that support this workflow and to download the plugins, see Supported Design Applications for Datasmith. For information on how to create Datasmith files that you can import into Twinmotion, see the Datasmith File Import Workflow. |
