Upgrade Your Project
In this scenario, you want to upgrade your existing project to Unreal Engine 5.7.
This can be done simply by opening the project in Unreal Engine 5.7. Any MetaHuman Character assets will be upgraded and continue to work as expected. Any assembled MetaHuman characters will also be upgraded and continue to work as expected, however they will not receive any of the improvements made to the assembly pipelines.
For example, you assembled a MetaHuman character in an Unreal Engine 5.6 project using the UE Cinematic assembly pipeline in MetaHuman Creator. Later, you upgrade your project by opening it in Unreal Engine 5.7. Your assembled MetaHuman character will be upgraded to work with the new engine version, and will keep the same features as before.
Upgrade Your Project Only
In this scenario, you want to upgrade your existing project to Unreal Engine 5.7 without upgrading the MetaHuman characters.
You can continue to use MetaHuman Creator to author characters in an Unreal Engine 5.6 project. Once assembled, this project can be upgraded to the latest version of Unreal Engine, with the assets manually migrated to an existing project that had already been upgraded. The assembled assets will not receive any of the improvements made to the assembly pipelines.
For example, you assemble a MetaHuman character in an Unreal Engine 5.6 project using the UE Cinematic assembly pipeline. Then, you upgrade the project to the latest version of Unreal Engine. Your assembled MetaHuman characters will be upgraded to work with the new engine version, and will keep the same features as before. From here, they could be migrated to another project which has already been upgraded.
Upgrade Your MetaHuman Characters
In this scenario, you want to upgrade your MetaHuman characters to use in an Unreal Engine 5.7 project.
To upgrade your MetaHuman characters you will need to re-run the assembly pipeline for the MetaHuman Character asset in a project that has already been upgraded to the newer version of Unreal Engine.. Once re-assembled, the new version of the assets will include all of the improvements.
For example, your Unreal Engine 5.6 project contains MetaHuman Character assets. After upgrading the project to Unreal Engine 5.7, you re-run the UE Cinematic assembly pipeline. The new version of the assembled assets will take advantage of any new features that have been introduced.
Upgrade Only Your MetaHuman Characters
In this scenario, you want to upgrade your MetaHuman characters without upgrading the project to Unreal Engine 5.7.
This is currently not possible. The new version of MetaHuman characters and their assets only work with the matching version of Unreal Engine.
For example, the version of MetaHuman Character and Assembly assets for Unreal Engine 5.7 only work with Unreal Engine 5.7 or later.
