Installing the Datasmith Exporter Plugin for Solidworks | Unreal Engine 4.27 Documentation

Before you are able to begin exporting your Solidworks content, you will need to install the Unreal Datasmith Exporter for Solidworks plugin.

We encourage you to share the download link to the Datasmith Exporter plugins with any number of people, both inside and outside of your organization. Please note that you are not permitted to distribute the Datasmith Exporter plugins themselves.

Installing the Datasmith Exporter for Solidworks

If the Datasmith for Solidworks plugin installer detects multiple versions of Solidworks on your system, and at least one of these versions is supported, it will install the export plugin for all of the Solidworks versions it detects. Note that the export plugin is not supported for Solidworks 2019 and older versions.

Close any running instances of Solidworks that you may have open on your machine. If any instances are currently running, the installation will fail.
If you already have an older version of the Datasmith Exporter plugin installed, we recommend first uninstalling it before proceeding. For details, see the Removing the Datasmith Exporter for Solidworks section on this page.
Download the Exporter plugin installer from the Datasmith Exporter Plugins download page.
When the download is complete, navigate to the location of the file and run the installer.
Follow the on-screen instructions and accept the license agreement to continue.
Click Install, then wait for the installation to complete.
Click Finish.

With the Datasmith Exporter plugin installed, you can now export scenes from Solidworks as a .udatasmith file. See Exporting Datasmith Content from Solidworks.

Epic releases a new version of the Unreal Datasmith Exporter plugin for Solidworks with every new release of Unreal Engine. If you switch to a different version of Unreal Engine, remember to download and install the matching version of the plugin.

Removing the Datasmith Exporter for Solidworks

Use the standard control panel utilities for your system to find and remove the Unreal Datasmith Exporter for Solidworks application.

For example, on Windows 10, you can use the Uninstall a Program window. Right-click the entry for the Unreal Datasmith Exporter for Solidworks plugin, then select Uninstall.
