Using Prefabs and Galleries in Fortnite Creative | Fortnite Documentation

Visually enhance your island with themed prefab and gallery assets in Fortnite Creative and Unreal Editor for Fortnite (UEFN). Want to create a western town? A medieval village? A futuristic techno-punk shopping mall? Start building your themed island with prefabs and galleries.

Prefabs are ready-made structures, and galleries are themed collections of building pieces and props. Both are available in Creative and UEFN.

Access Prefabs and Galleries

You can find prefabs and galleries in both Creative and UEFN.

Creative: From the Menu under Content > Galleries and Content > Prefabs. Add assets to the Quick Bar to place them in your island.
UEFN: From the Content Browser, go to All > Fortnite > Galleries for galleries, and All > Fortnite > Prefabs for prefabs. Drag assets from the Content Browser into the viewport for placement.

Search for a theme name, like farm, to filter the results to assets that use that theme.

Prefabs

A prefab is a prefabricated structure, like a fully furnished building, bridge, environment backdrop, or floating island.

In Creative, double-click a prefab in the Content Menu to see all the items that make up that prefab. You can equip a single item by selecting only that item, or go back and equip the entire prefab. In UEFN, you can double-click the asset to examine all the assets, but you must place the prefab in the viewport.

After you place the entire prefab, you can still move or remove individual components, or select and manipulate the entire prefab.

Galleries

A gallery is a collection of assets with a related theme. Unlike a prefab, a gallery is not assembled into a structure. Galleries are broken into categories like props, walls, and doors. You can use these gallery components to build your own custom structures.

In Creative, double-click a gallery to expand it and see all of its assets. In UEFN, open the gallery subfolder to view its individual asset files.

Modular Workflow

Galleries support a modular workflow. You can:

Bring in the whole gallery so every piece is available as you build.
Pull a single asset from the gallery folder to place only what you need.

Props with Gameplay Functionality

Some galleries include smart props: props with built-in logic that can interact with players. They are available in both Creative and UEFN.

For example, the Pacific Break Wonkeeland Prop gallery includes props like the Ferris Wheel and Water Slide. Some props, like the Water Jet Impulser and Lazy River Tube, need a water volume to activate their gameplay. To learn more, see Water Devices and Pacific Break Galleries.

You can also add functionality to gallery pieces like doors using the Lock Door device. Expand functionality further with Scene Graph and Verse.

Build Environments with Galleries and Prefabs

Use these tips when building with prefabs and galleries in Creative or UEFN.

Use the Fortnite grid. The Fortnite grid snaps building pieces together so floors, walls, and roofs connect cleanly. Check your grid and snapping settings if pieces don't line up. To learn more, see Grid Snapping.
Break the grid for unique shapes (UEFN). You can turn off Fortnite Cell Snap in the viewport toolbar and set a custom grid size to place pieces more freely. This works well for buildings on a non-destructible island. To learn more, see Viewport Toolbar.
Kitbash. Combine props, prefabs, and gallery pieces from different themes to create scenes. For an example building workflow, see Working with KPop Demon Hunters Islands.
Find where an asset came from (UEFN). In the Outliner, right-click an asset and select Browse to the Asset to locate it in the Content Browser. This is useful when examining starter island templates.
Layer your environment (UEFN). Place landscape in the foreground, gallery and geometry assets in the middle ground, and vista assets in the background. To learn more, see Vistas and Biome Environments.
