Transferring a project reassigns its ownership to the destination team. Both live and unpublished projects can be transferred, and the transfer takes effect immediately. No republish or new build is required.
After the transfer completes, you will lose the access and benefits granted to the transferred project, including monetization and ability to make any further changes to the project.
Who Can Transfer a Project
To transfer a project, you must be the Owner of the team the project is leaving, and an Owner or Administrator of the team receiving it.
Role | Transfer a project out | Receive a project |
Owner | Yes | Yes |
Administrator | No | Yes |
Publisher | No | No |
Collaborator | No | No |
If you are not an Owner or Administrator on the destination team, ask that team's owner to add you first.
Teams where you do not meet the role requirement appear greyed out in the transfer menu, with a tooltip explaining why.
Before You Begin
Check the following before you start a transfer.
Agreements the Destination Team Must Have in Place
Some content requires the destination team to have signed the relevant publishing agreements before it can receive a transfer. For example, a Brand Island requires the new owner to have accepted the IP Partner Licensing Agreement before you can transfer your project.
For IP-related content, signing the agreement is not sufficient. The new owner must also be enrolled in the IP program.
Campaigns and Outstanding Balances
You cannot transfer a project that has an active campaign or an outstanding balance. In both cases, Transfer ownership is greyed out, and if you already have the transfer modal open, its confirm button is disabled as well. Resolve the condition first:
Condition | What to do first |
An active campaign | End any sponsored campaigns running on the island. |
An outstanding balance | Close out any remaining balance on the island. |
This greying out is separate from the role requirement. An active campaign or an outstanding balance greys out Transfer ownership itself, so you cannot open the transfer menu at all. A role requirement you do not meet greys out individual teams inside the destination list. See Who can transfer a project.
Transfer a Project
To transfer a project, follow these steps.
Log in to Creator Portal and use the team switcher to select the team that owns the project you want to transfer.
Go to the Projects tab.
Click the three-dot menu on the project tile.
Select Transfer to another team.
Choose a destination team from the list, then click Transfer ownership. Teams where you do not meet the role requirement are greyed out.
Review the warning modal.
Click Transfer Project to confirm the transfer.
Once successful, the Project tab will display a banner with a message that the transfer was complete and the project tile will no longer appear in your Projects tab.
What Changes After a Transfer
Area | What happens |
Team member access | All team members of the previous team lose access to the project, unless they are also members of the destination team. Admin and owners will still have access to historical payout data up to the point of transfer. |
Analytics - Popular Now | The Popular Now widget stops showing a project once it has been transferred to a team you can no longer access. |
Payouts | Payout attribution is tied to the account associated with prior activity. A transfer does not retroactively change who was paid for activity before the transfer. |
A/B tests | Any A/B test already running on the project continues through the transfer without interruption. |
Offers and entitlements | Historical offer and entitlement metrics in project analytics stay tied to the project itself. Only payout data prior to transfer stays with the previous owner. |
Developer attribution and team name | These update automatically after a transfer. If you see stale information, refresh the page. |
Community and channel links | Channels are linked to a specific island, and ownership is checked when the link is displayed. After a transfer, the link no longer appears under the previous owner's channel. The new owner must create a new channel and relink the island. |
Direct Links | The Direct Links that were created for the island prior to transfer will still work and function as they did prior to transfer. To prevent usage of these links, you may want to remove them from previous public posts and publications. |
Moderation bans or other actions | If a ban is actively applied to your account, you cannot transfer nor have an island transferred to you. |
