Introduction
In-editor content pre-checks are intended to alert you early in the development of your island if any of your assets will likely result in a moderation rejection when published. Notifying you of potentially problematic assets during development means you can address any moderation issues before you publish your island, which can reduce the incidence of publishing failures.
Previously, moderation checks were only made when you cook or upload your island and its assets for publishing to the Creator Portal, and could take some time before sending you the result. When a violation was detected, the entire island would fail during publishing. In-editor notifications improve on this by offering immediate feedback as to which specific assets are problematic and why, giving you the option to immediately correct any issues.
For more information on Epic Games' moderation policies, see Island Moderation Tips and FAQs.
Working with In-Editor Content Pre-Checks
When you cook your project, the in-editor pre-checks review your assets for anything that might potentially violate our developer rules. If they detect a violation, you are shown a notification in the lower right of the UI informing you of the potential issue, and of the number of assets affected.
From there, you can click the link to review the Epic Games Content Guidelines (opening in a new browser window) or click Show Violations to open the message log, showing you information about the problem asset and which of the Epic Games Developer Rules it violates. You can also click Later to dismiss the warning temporarily.
Content Moderation Messages
Each problem with an asset flagged by the in-editor pre-check produces a separate message, which includes a link to the flagged asset, and the policy it is potentially violating. Click the link in the message to show the asset that triggered the message in the Content Browser.
Flagged Assets
Flagged assets have a warning icon on their asset thumbnail, a yellow triangle with an exclamation mark. Hovering over a flagged asset shows you the policy description, and a pointer back to the message log. Remove or update the asset to correct the issue.
Additional Information
A single asset can trigger more than one message. Updating an asset in such a way that it resolves one of the warnings but not all of them does not prevent the other notifications from triggering.
Dismissing a content pre-check message does not correct the problem. You will continue to receive the message every time you work on your project until you resolve the issue causing it.
In-editor content pre-check messages do not prevent you from publishing your island. If you believe a message is in error, you can publish your island to the Creator Portal for a full review.
