When you first configure your community, you set up channels for you and your community members to post in. From the main community front page, navigate to the channel you want to post in.
To create a new post, click New Post. This opens the post editor.
All users will see the top section of the post editor. Only community managers will have access to the More options section, described below.
Original posts consist of:
Post title
Post body
Thumbnail (optional)
If you do not add a thumbnail to your post, it will default to a llama thumbnail image.
In the post body area, you can add rich text by highlighting text and setting it to be:
Bold
Italic
Underline
Strikethrough
Link
Code text
You can also add rich blocks, including:
Images
Bulleted lists
Numbered lists
You can also insert emojis in the body of the text.
More Options on a Post
When you are on the Community Team, there are some additional options available to you to make advance posts. The options that are available to you depend on where you want your post to show.
Communities Only
Event
You can add an Event to a communities-only post. This is a way for you to let your community know if you’re planning to run an event outside of Fortnite, for example in Twitch or YouTube.
Turn the pip on in the Event section to access the Event details. From there, you can set:
Twitch link (optional)
YouTube link (optional)
Start date and time
End date and time
When an event is created, it will show up in the My Feed section for users that are following your community. Users can then mark Interested on the event to let you know that they plan to attend.
When users click Interested, they will see a notification on the bell at the top of the Communities website to let them know when the event is coming up soon or starting. When an event is currently live, it will show up in the sidebar for all users browsing your community to see.
Fortnite & Communities
Fortnite Announcement
As soon as you select Fortnite & Communities as where you want your post to show, you’ll be required to fill out the information Fortnite needs to display your post. Fortnite has specific limitations in terms of what it supports, so consider this a lightweight version of the full post it links to in your Community.
Item | Description |
Short title | Your short title will display on the post card in the Community Highlights section on:
The short title is also used on your Island Lobby when your post is featured in the Message of the Day (MOTD) slot. The maximum length of the short title is 50 characters. Emojis can’t be used in your title. |
Description | This is the main body of the post that shows up in Fortnite. You can use plain text and emojis only in your description. Fortnite has a limited number of emojis that it supports. Check first by inputting the emojis you want to use, then click Preview to see whether they will render in Fortnite. Your description can be up to 1000 characters. |
Image | The image you upload should be 1920 x 1080 pixels. Keep in mind that when you select the Fortnite Lobby option, some text will overlay the bottom of the image. Check how it looks in the Preview before posting. |
Fortnite Island Lobby
Click this pip on if you’d like your post to also show in the Message of the Day (MOTD) tile in your Fortnite Lobby. It will inherit the short title and image from the Fortnite Post section.
Your latest 2 posts with the Lobby option on will be shown in the first 2 slots of the MOTD section of your lobby in game.
Event
Only events taking place in Fortnite can be announced in Fortnite. As such, you don’t have the same options available to add external links. You can only set:
Start date and time
End date and time
Like the other options, Events in Fortnite will inherit the short title and description you set for Fortnite.
In addition to showing in your community, Events will also show in-game in similar places to community posts that you share in game:
The Following section in Fortnite for users that have
Followed you as a developer
Favorited your island
Your Developer page in Fortnite and on Fortnite.com
Your Island Details page in Fortnite and on Fortnite.com
We are testing a Community Events row in the Discover tab. The row will not be available to all players during this test, and its placement may change as we evaluate performance.
The Discover row surfaces events based on when they are starting and how many players have selected that they are Interested on the Communities post. Placement in the row is not guaranteed, and we prevent islands and developers from appearing more than once.
All content in Fortnite Communities must be appropriate for a general audience and abide by Fortnite Developer Rules. Content will be moderated prior to showing in Fortnite.
Previewing Your Post
Click Preview full view to preview what the post will look like in-game. Note that Fortnite has a more limited emoji library than the web, and some emojis may be removed.
When you are satisfied with your post, click Post. Your post immediately shows up on Fortnite Communities web and goes through moderation prior to showing up in Fortnite.
Adjusting an Existing Post
You can edit an existing post at any time to set additional options. Open the post in your community, then click the vertical ellipsis menu and select Edit.
This opens the Edit Post modal with the same options available when creating a new post.
If you make any changes to a post that is set to display in Fortnite & Communities, it re-sends the post through moderation after you Save changes.
Moderation of Announcements
While the post is waiting for moderation, it loads with a banner at the top of the page informing you that the post is In Review.
If your post passes moderation, you’ll see an Approved banner, and the content shows up right away in Fortnite as soon as it’s approved.
If your post fails moderation, you’ll see a Failed banner on the post.
To understand why your post failed moderation, click More Info.
The window showing information about why your post failed moderation.
If your post fails moderation, you will also receive detailed information by email.
You have two choices to resolve a failed post:
Appeal: If you believe the moderator made a mistake, you can appeal to re-send the post back through moderation without making changes.
Edit post: To edit your post, click Edit post to open the post editor.
Make changes to modify your post to be compliant. When you’re ready, click Save Changes to resubmit your post back into moderation.
For any reason if you decide to make changes to an existing, live post, the post is taken down from Fortnite until it passes moderation again.
Changing Island Ownership
When you transfer ownership of your island to another person, you are no longer able to link that island to your channels.
If the island is already linked to one or more of your channels, then the channels will still exist, but that island no longer shows as linked on the Channel page.
Delete a channel if it’s no longer relevant for your community.
The new island owner can create new channels and link one or more of those channels to the island.
