When a character is wearing head hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, mustache, or a beard as part of their costume, certain attributes of the hair can be customized to achieve the desired look.
To modify these attributes, find the desired hair item in the character’s Hair & Clothing > Details panel.
Hair Overrides
The attributes available to override may differ between hair items. This section documents some of the more common overrides.
| Attribute | Description |
|---|---|
Dye Color | Set the dye color of the hair. Dye color is an RGB value, which will be displayed if the melanin value is 0. When the Dye color is white, hair color will be determined by the melanin value. Mixing melanin and Dye values will result in 'natural' hair dyed shades. |
Hair Color | Determines the ‘natural color’ of the hair. The melanin slider controls the whiteness of the hair strand, 0 being white and 1 being black. Redness controls the undertones in the hair, which manifests in the highlights or overall color. |
Roughness | Control the reflectiveness of the hair. |
Whiteness | Control the percentage of gray hairs to achieve a “salt and pepper” effect. |
Lightness | Controls the brightness of the gray hair. |
In addition, you can customize some hairstyles with Ombre and Highlights coloring effects, as well as Region coloring for mohawk styles. Custom secondary colors are set with Melanin, Redness and Dye values. Melanin and Redness are defined as Ombre Color, Region Color, and Highlights Color respectively, and the same rule applies to Highlight and Region colors.
Use the following properties to further customize Ombre and Highlights color effects on the groom:
| Customization | Property | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Ombre | ||
Shift | Controls how much of your MetaHuman’s hair is affected by ombre. Ombre starts at the tip of the hairs and spreads upwards. The lower this property is, the greater the area affected by ombre. | |
Contrast | Controls transition smoothness between the ombre and the rest of the hair. | |
Intensity | Controls how visible the effect is on the hair (value of Ombre mask opacity). | |
| Highlights | ||
Balance | Controls the balance between dyed and natural hair strands. | |
Intensity | Controls how visible the effect is on the hair (value of Highlights mask opacity). | |
Variation | Choose from a range of different highlights variations. Set the values 0, 1, 2, or 3 for highlight variations. Float values will give inaccurate results. |
Only strand based eyelashes are affected with overrides.
