When animating a MetaHuman’s hair, you have the option of using hair strands or hair cards. Hair strands offer the most realistic appearance and movement, while hair cards can offer better performance.
To adjust the Hair Groom settings, click on the Hair component and go to the Details window.
Scroll down to the Groom section to see the available settings.
Hair Strands and Hair Cards
By default, the MetaHuman Hair component will use hair strands for LOD 0 and hair cards for all other LODs.
To improve performance you can enable the Use Cards checkbox to force the component to use hair cards on all LODs. In typical scenarios, this setting has shown performance improvements between 20-30%.
Hair Animation
By default, the MetaHuman hair animates (simulates) realistically for hair strands and hair cards. This has a performance impact and can be customized to suit your needs.
You can set the hair animation settings by expanding the Simulation section.
To improve performance, enable the Override Settings checkbox and disable the Enable Simulation checkbox. This disables hair animation and makes the hair static.
You can also adjust the Simulation Setup and External Forces settings to achieve a desired animation result.
Some hair grooms are available for LOD 0 only, and may not be available in UEFN since UEFN LOD 0 sometimes refers to LOD 1 for the source MetaHuman.
