You can create your own custom materials in Twinmotion using the following base material types: Foliage, Video, Subsurface, Car paint, Water, Emissive, Fabric, Glass, and Standard.
All the base material types in Twinmotion are physically-based and can be fully customized by adding your own textures and modifying the available settings for each material type.
To create your own custom material, follow these steps:
Open the Materials dock by clicking Materials in the Footer.
In the Materials dock, the name of the material type is displayed on the Add ( + ) icon. By default, the Standard material type is selected.
Depending on whether or not the material type you want to use is selected, do one of the following:
If the material type you want to use is selected, click the Add ( + ) icon.
The newly created material is added as a thumbnail in the Materials dock.
To select a new material type, click the vertical ellipsis ( ⋮ ) to the right of the Add ( + ) icon, and in the context menu select the material type you want to create.
When you select a new material type from the list, a thumbnail of the new material is automatically added to the Materials dock. This also changes the selected material type to the one you selected, and changes the name to match that material type on the Add ( + ) icon.
The context menu also contains an entry for Substance materials.
Selecting the Substance material type opens a dialog box where you can import Substance material files from your computer into Twinmotion. For information about working with Substance materials in Twinmotion, see Substance Materials.
To display the settings of the material in the Properties panel, in the Materials dock either select the newly created material, or drag it onto an asset in the scene.
You can customize the material by adding your own textures and modifying the settings in the Properties panel. The changes are automatically applied to any asset in the scene on which this material is applied.
