Fog cards add depth and motion to the natural environments in your scenes. You can place fog cards in the scene exactly where you want them, for example on background elements such as mountains in the distance.
The fog cards in the Twinmotion Library come in a variety of sizes and shapes and can be adapted to fit your project’s needs. You can change their scale and appearance, have them follow the speed and direction of the global wind in the scene, or control their speed and direction in relation to the global wind.
Fog cards are lightweight in terms of performance impact and can be used in the Twinmotion Dynamic sky and in HDRIs.
Depending on the type of effect you want to create, you can use the fog cards with the other fog features in Twinmotion:
Ambience > Env > Fog - To add an overall fog effect.
Library > Objects > VFX > Fog - To add small fog banks or ground fog.
Adding Fog Cards to the Scene
To add a fog card to the scene, follow these steps:
Open the Twinmotion Library and select a fog card in the Objects > VFX > Fog card category.
Drag the fog card into the scene.
Once the fog card is placed, you can customize it in the Fog card section in the Properties panel.
For information about the properties of fog cards, see the Fog Card Properties section below.
Fog Card Properties
The following tables list the fog card properties you can customize.
Appearance
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
Facing camera | If selected, the front of the fog card always faces the camera. By default, this option is selected. We recommend keeping this option selected when you create videos where the viewport camera moves around the scene. When you create a static image, and depending on the fog effect you are trying to achieve, you may want to deselect this option and adjust the front-facing position of the fog cards manually. |
Density | Controls the density of the fog card. If 0.0 is selected the fog card is not visible. Options: 0.0 to 1.0 |
Scale | Scales the fog card proportionally. Options: 1 to 100 |
Tint | Opens the color picker where you can choose the color of the fog card. The color you select in the color picker may appear differently in the scene, depending on the other light sources in the scene, such as the sun and sky. |
Emissive color | Opens the color picker where you can choose the emissive color of the fog card. Fog cards are self-illuminated and remain visible in low global lighting. Emissive color can be used to reinforce the appearance of the fog in case of low global lighting or sun grazing angles. |
Wind
| Option | Description |
|---|---|
Affected by wind | If selected, the fog card reacts to the wind if wind is enabled in the scene. Wind is enabled and disabled in the Ambience panel in the Env (Environment) > Wind section. |
Speed factor | When Affected by wind is selected, this controls the speed of the fog card as it moves in the scene. The value you select multiplies the Speed of the global wind that you define in the Ambience panel in the Env (Environment) > Wind section. For example:
Options: 0.0 to 5.0 |
Override speed | If selected, you can choose the speed at which the fog card moves, instead of using the speed of the wind set in the Ambience panel in the Env (Environment) > Wind section. |
Speed | Controls the speed of the fog card when Override speed is selected. Options: 0.0 to 5.0 |
Override direction | If selected, you can choose the direction the fog card moves, instead of using the direction of the wind set in the Ambience panel in the Env (Environment) > Wind section. |
Direction | Controls the direction of the fog card, in degrees, when Override direction is selected. The degrees reflect the rotation offset. Options: 0° to 360° |
