What’s New
Nanite
Nanite is Unreal Engine 5's virtualized geometry system which uses a new internal mesh format and rendering technology to render pixel scale detail and high object counts.
With Nanite in Twinmotion you can use a large amount of extremely complex geometries within the same scene without having to optimize them.
You can convert imported geometry meshes to Nanite during the import process, or afterward on selected geometry meshes in the Properties panel.
We have added a new Convert all to Nanite option to the Scene graph’s contextual menu. With this feature, you can batch convert all imported geometries parented to the selected object into Nanite meshes in a single operation.
To view Nanite meshes, use the Nanite triangles viewport mode. You can access it by clicking the View mode icon located in the top-right hand corner of the viewport.
For more information, see Optimizing Geometry with Nanite.
Limitations
Depending on the heaviness of the geometry, this process can take a while.
Nanite works well for highly dense and uniform geometry meshes. Using it on low density meshes can produce unexpected results.
Parallax Windows
The Parallax Windows library contains 32 assets: 18 are inspired by Office, Residential, and Gym themes, and another 10 feature commercial environments developed in collaboration with wParallax.
To enrich realism and variety, a new parameter section has been introduced to control the night cycle and introduce animated randomization.
Another addition enables the simulation of a glass overlay, enhancing the depth and realism of interior materials.
New controls such as mirroring and dual-sided occlusion offer greater flexibility and creative freedom in crafting diverse and dynamic visuals.
For more information, see Parallax Windows.
3D Grass Material
A new Accent meshes section has been introduced, featuring vegetal elements designed to break up the uniformity of the grass and add a wilder, more natural look to the terrain.
Additionally, a Presets section containing 15 curated presets has been added at the top of the Properties panel. These presets combine various grass types, accent meshes, and parameter settings to replicate realistic and diverse ground appearances.
The color blending system has also been reworked, and a Dryness parameter has been introduced, enabling you to easily apply a dry, sun-scorched effect to the entire result.
Twinmotion Installer Size Reduction and On-demand Content
The content currently within the Twinmotion package has been migrated to cloud storage to ease the process of local network deployment and make the installer lighter so that it can be distributed more easily.
To ensure that users can still find the legacy content that has been removed from the installer, a content-on-demand solution has been developed to recover this distant content.
A Download icon has been added to the categories in the library. Clicking the icon downloads the entire contents of a category all at once.
Content packs can now be downloaded directly from the Library packs tab of the Home panel.
The Standard Library Pack includes a vast collection of high-quality drag-and-drop assets suitable to populate the majority of your projects. You can download even more assets directly within the Twinmotion Library.
The Starter Library Pack is a lightweight subset of the Standard Library Pack, designed for quick installs, testing, or demos.
Limitations and Known Issues
If you open a file from a previous version, a pop up window appears and asks if you want to recover the content from the cloud. Recovering the content requires an internet connection.
If you choose to recover the content, a progress bar appears in the bottom-left corner of the user interface.
Please note that materials that have not been previously downloaded in Twinmotion will not be visible in the Materials category when using VR mode.
Fog Cards
We have breathed new life into our environments with fresh particle systems and dynamic effects, bringing a heightened sense of realism and atmosphere.
The VFX category in the library now boasts 17 fog cards, perfect for crafting depth and natural ambience.
To further empower creators, we have also introduced a suite of parameters designed to unleash user creativity, which includes Fog color and Scale controls and wind-reactive motion settings.
For more information, see the Fog Cards documentation.
Camera Synchronization with Twinmotion
With Direct Link connections and Datasmith file imports, users can align both their active DCC viewport cameras and saved DCC camera views with the Twinmotion viewport camera, keeping viewpoints matched between applications.
The DCC Camera Sync icon, located in the top-right corner of the Twinmotion viewport, provides quick access to enable and manage camera synchronization. This icon is only visible when a Datasmith import is present or a Direct Link connection has been established.
A new Camera Synchronization user interface includes two buttons that make it easy to control and understand synchronization status:
2025.2 Limitations
3Ds Max: As of this release, only saved cameras are pushed through Direct Link connections and Datasmith imports.
Revit: As of this release, only the active viewport camera is exported through Direct Link connections and Datasmith imports.
Camera roll is not exported.
Workaround: Adjust the roll of the camera in Media mode.
Orthographic camera views from DCCs are currently not synchronized with the Twinmotion orthographic camera views.
Static Motion Blur
A set of Static motion blur tools has been added to the Twinmotion Library in the Tools > Static motion blur section. With the new Linear Blur and Circular Blur tools, you can quickly simulate movement in a static scene, for example by adding a rotational motion blur to the wheels of a car, or a linear motion blur to a crowd.
When a static mesh is made a child of one of these tools in the Scene graph, the artificial motion blur effect is applied to the static mesh.
Limitations
The motion blur applied to a mesh is not rendered in surrounding reflections.
Translucent surfaces are only affected by the motion blur of opaque surfaces behind them, be it the motion blur of their own meshes or of other meshes.
A maximum of 20 static motion blur tools can be used in a scene at the same time.
Virtual Camera (VCam)
You can now connect Twinmotion to the Unreal VCam app on both Android and iOS, enabling you to position a virtual camera in the scene by simply moving your handheld device.
With the VCam feature you can do the following:
Connect Twinmotion to the Unreal VCam app.
Place a live camera in the scene from the handheld device.
Control key camera settings in real time: Focal length, focus, exposure, and certain navigation settings, as exposed in the VCam.
Set the VCam streaming quality in the Twinmotion Preferences panel.
For more information about the VCam in Twinmotion, see Virtual Camera (VCam).
Limitations
Camera movements cannot be recorded; only static views can be saved.
The VCam position always overrides the media camera position.
The handheld device can be Android or iOS, but the source computer must be a PC.
Exploder Animators
We have introduced a new kind of Animator. The Exploder Animators are designed to create exploded views of objects for technical presentations and architectural animations.
Similar to the other Animators, they include a visual helper, settings, and a shape parameter.
Shape: Selects the spatial pattern of the Exploder (such as a sphere, cylinder, or plane), which determines the direction in which each part will travel.
Child settings: Per‑object controls for Timing (stagger offset) and Origin (pivot vs. bounding‑box centre). The order of the animation follows the current Scene graph hierarchy.
Exploders affect only their direct children. Nested objects (parented to meshes or to folders) are considered to be ‘one’ object.
For more information, see the Exploder Tool page.
Limitation
Animators that use the Collision play mode and are saved in the User library do not retain the Collision play mode. When you drag the animator from the User library into the scene, the play mode will revert to Preview mode.
Updated Animators (Translators and Rotators)
Translator and Rotator Animators have been fully redesigned to support advanced functionality:
Sequence tool compatibility: Animators can now be controlled directly by the timeline, enabling users to create sophisticated video sequences with precise control and timing.
Enhanced playmode control: In real-time mode, Animators provide significantly improved playmodes, offering greater flexibility, especially within configurations.
New functionality: You can now add a time offset to the children of Translators and Animators to create a phasing effect.
The user interface of the Properties panel for Animators has been updated.
For more information, see Animator Tools.
Limitation
Animators that use the Collision play mode and are saved in the User library do not retain the Collision play mode. When you drag the animator from the User library into the scene, the play mode will revert to Preview mode.
Improvements to the Sequence Tool
The playhead can now control the following:
Animators.
Limitation: Animators (such as Translators and Rotators) prior to version 2025.2 can be controlled by the playhead but, unlike the new Animators, tracks will not be created for them in sequences
Twinmotion animated assets, such as characters, animals, vehicles, and animated paths.
A new Track edit mode has been added. You can switch between Default, Scale, and Loop.
Depending on the Track edit mode you choose, you can modify the length of camera parts without changing the position of the keyframes, or by scaling the keyframes in a proportional manner.
A View options menu, which includes filters and sorting options, has been added to manage sequenced items.
Static and Real time Modes for Animations in Images and Panoramas
We have introduced a global Static / Real time animation playing option in the properties of images and panoramas. When you create an image or panorama that contains an animation (created with Animators, imported animation files, or animated paths), you can pause it to select the precise point in the animation you want to use in the image or panorama.
Configurations
Added a camera to the list of saved elements.
Added a Recapture all state thumbnails button.
The
.svgfile format is now supported for trigger icons and states.Added a Global settings window to customize the ribbon of 2D triggers more easily.
Added an option in the Global settings window to disable the configuration sounds.
Added a Switch reverse option.
Added the List and Switch reverse options for 3D object triggers.
All 3D triggers are now visible in the Scene graph at all times.
Added an option to display all 2D triggers.
Added an option to position the 2D triggers at the top of the screen and customize the settings of all the 2D triggers at once.
Added an option to define the spacing between the edge of the screen and the 2D triggers.
Configuration Support for the Sony Spatial Reality Display Device
Configuration triggers are now supported on the Sony Spatial Reality Display device. You can switch between configuration states on the device using the triggers.
XYZ Panel Input Slider
You can now click inside a numeric field in the XYZ panel and drag your mouse left or right to adjust the value in the field. You can also use the following shortcuts to further control the value selection:
To add a x10 coefficient, hold the Shift key while dragging.
To add a 1/10 coefficient, hold the Ctrl key while dragging.
Custom LUT Support
You can now import your own lookup tables (LUTs) in .cube file format in the new LUT category inside the FX tab of the Ambience panel. You can use a lookup table from an existing LUT library, or use a custom LUT created specifically for your scene using Photoshop or other image editing software.
Advanced Post-Process Effects
The entire filter system in the FX tab of the Ambience panel has been redesigned to offer greater flexibility and improved visual quality. The filters are now grouped under a dedicated category named Effects. This update places a strong emphasis on painterly and sketch-style effects, with new settings such as hatching, Kuwahara filtering, and pen-style outlines. As all filter parameters are fully exposed, you can customize all the settings and save them as new filter presets.
Limitations
Path tracing is not supported.
Retro compatibility is not supported. Older scenes using previous filters (such as 8-bit, and Ballpoint Pen) will no longer have these effects applied.
NVIDIA DLSS mode can cause jittering on outlines. For now, we recommend using Temporal super resolution when working with the Outline effect.
Exported render layers will not have post-process effects applied to them. However, they can still be used as masks.
Viewport Modes
You can now activate different technical viewport modes by clicking the View mode icon in the top right-hand corner of the viewport. These view modes help with scene debugging.
Unlit: Displays base color only, with lighting and shading disabled.
Wireframe: Shows all polygon edges to inspect mesh topology.
Lumen surface: Shows Lumen’s surface cache to show how indirect lighting is calculated.
Nanite triangles: Displays the triangles of meshes processed by Nanite.
For more information, see Viewport Modes in the The Viewport documentation.
Materials Dock Improvements
You can now create folders in the Materials dock.
You can navigate folders with a breadcrumb similar to the one in the Twinmotion Library, or by clicking on a folder tile.
You can drag materials or folders onto a breadcrumb item to move it to the dropped location.
You can create a folder using the Add folder icon, or by right-clicking on an empty space in the Materials dock and choosing Create folder from the contextual menu.
You can now right-click a material or folder to open the contextual menu:
Folders: You can cut, copy, paste, rename, and delete folders.
The following new options have been added to the menu of the Filters icon:
You can reorder materials alphabetically or using a custom order.
If the materials in the dock are sorted into folders or subfolders, you can enable a Flat view, which shows you the materials in a single unified view without the folders. The Flat view is identical to the default hierarchy view in previous versions. If you enable the Flat view at the root of the breadcrumb you can see all the materials in the scene.
You can now do a live search in the Materials dock by using the new search field. (The search functionality is still a work in progress and will be updated in future versions.)
Tab System in the Properties Panel for Materials
The user interface for the settings of materials in the Properties panel has been redesigned to use a tab system. The new tab system reduces the need to scroll and provides quicker access to key material settings.
With this new tab system design, you can now also change the shared properties of multiple selected materials of different types, such as UV, X-ray, and Two sided settings.
Material Multidrop Tool
The new Material multidrop tool in the toolbar enables you to apply a material with each mouse click in the scene, avoiding repetitive drag-and-drop actions from the Materials dock and speeding up workflows.
Materials Assignment View
A new Assign tab has been added to the Properties panel for materials, giving you a clear overview of which meshes a selected material has been applied to.
Similarly, if you select a mesh in the scene, the Properties panel now has a Materials section where you can see which materials are applied to the mesh. You can also drag materials from the library or the Materials dock onto the materials in this section to quickly replace them.
Batch Export
We added a new option in the Export panel where you can batch export a media with configurations.
For example, if a configuration that contains five states is applied to an image (or another type of media) you export, five images (one for each state) will be exported.
Selection Outline
Added options in the Preferences panel to control the visibility of the selection outline both in Editor mode and Presenter mode (F12).
For more information, see the Twinmotion Preferences documentation.
Mesh Tessellation on Selected Meshes for .wire Files
Twinmotion now offers flexible tessellation controls for Autodesk Alias (.wire) files, both at import and after import on selected meshes.
On Import: The Import window provides expanded tessellation options, allowing users to define mesh detail before bringing geometry into the scene. Users can begin with one of the presets — Coarse, Low, Medium, High — and, if desired, refine individual parameters to create a custom configuration tailored to their needs.
On Selection: Once imported, individual meshes or multiple selected meshes can also be re-tessellated using the same presets and adjustable parameters, enabling interactive refinement of mesh quality.
The adjustable parameters include:
Chord Tolerance: Sets the maximum gap between tessellated mesh and curves.
Geometric Tolerance: Defines allowable deviation across surfaces.
Use Max Edge: Enforces edge length limits during tessellation.
Max Length: Specifies the maximum allowable edge length in the tessellated mesh.
Stitching Tolerance: Controls tolerance for merging vertices and edges.
Stitching Technique: Determines how tessellated surfaces are joined.
Saving Presets
When importing .wire files, users can also save tessellation settings as reusable presets. These presets are stored locally, can be shared with colleagues, and reused for future imports to ensure consistency.
2025.2 Limitations
At this time, preset saving is limited to the import workflow and is not available when retessellating selected meshes after import.
Cancel on Import
Users now have the flexibility to cancel imports that are taking longer than expected. This improvement puts you in control, allowing you to stop unnecessary operations, save time, and quickly retry with the right settings.
Cloud Panorama Sets
For better scene organization, when you create a Panorama set, you can now decide whether or not a thumbnail is included in the Media strip when viewing the Panorama set. The Include thumbnail checkbox is visible in the Properties panel when you select a panorama in the Panorama set. Hotspots in panoramas remain available whether or not the thumbnail is visible in the Panorama set.
Scene graph Improvement
Reduced the autoscroll zone to the top and bottom two items in the list.
